The field research serves several purposes, as outlined in the starting position. The first level at which the field research operates is at the level of arts-practice based research. To conduct research from within an arts practice is to frame the research in a particular way from the outset.
Because I am interested in trying to envisage the visible and the invisible aspects of systems and their operations, it is my practice to establish an infrastructure at the early research stage. Systems are complex and difficult to envisage; I find that infrastructure - conceptual, digital, relational, theoretical - is necessary to enable the capturing of the singular manifestations through which the operations of a system can be perceived.
FREE*SPACE is a conceptual and aesthetic infrastructure which has been created to support the development of a community of practice.
