January 11, 2017

January 10th 2017: I met up with Paul Tarpey, an artist and educator at Limerick School of Art & Design. Initially, we were discussing matters related to the series of film screenings/discussions that are being carried out as part of this research in collaboration with Rod Stoneman. However, it soon became clear that we have research interests in common; Paul’s PhD research is exploring elements of resistance in Limerick in the context of a period from 1966 – 73. He also practices in public space, working with elements of psychogeography and socially engaged practice. We exchanged some thoughts on the relationship between Modernist Ireland, globalised capitalism and the emergence of neoliberal thinking and language.
